Review: Hap Chan SM Bacoor

6:34 AM 25 Comments A+ a-

I LOOOOOOVEEEE Chinese food! I can eat a whole box of siomai in one seating. Everytime we go to Vikings, I can never leave without getting a plate of hakaw just for me. I often crave for wanton/beef brisket soup and can even eat frog's legs without barfing. While I am also into curries and anything spicy, Chinese food will always be on the top of my foodie list.

That's why when I knew about the opening of Hap Chan here in SM Bacoor, me and my husband that we should try it along with the kids. I had a taste of their menu years ago somewhere in Manila and my palate probably forgot how their food tastes like.

Soft-opening it is, many were also intrigued that's why it was a full-house when we went there. Most of them were old Chinese folks who are also looking for a decent meal rather than spending their pension money eating burgers, spaghetti, and chicken.

Anyway, here is the list of what we tried so far and my honest review as well.

  • Beef Brisket Noodles - it comes in two sizes, small and regular. During our first visit, we ordered the small size for my youngest which is good enough for one. The price was P90 while the regular size was priced at P130. We ordered the latter during our second visit and though it seems like it's good for sharing (max of 2 pax I guess), she still ate it all up by herself. That's how good it is.
that's how it looks like as well when served :)
  • Wanton Noodles - during my second visit with my eldest alone, I ordered this for my lunch. I was surprised that instead of the usual 2 wantons that I often get from other Chinese fastfood chains, they have 5! Five wantons that are generous not only in size but also in flavor. The shrimp inside was actually medium sized and it took me two bites to get each wanton done.
  • Yang Chao Fried Rice - this is a definitely a staple, right? One plate is actually good enough for 4. They may not have overflowing ingredients but it truly tasted great. And again, shrimps! I noticed that they are generous with shrimps The size was decent enough that you can taste/bite the shrimp rather than just a mere decoration on top of the fried rice.

  • Lechon Macau - it was hard for me to bite because of braces but I can't fight the urge to have something similar to our Pinoy lechon. Surprisingly, the meat was soft and the vinegar that comes with it compliments their lechon macau.

  • Salt and Pepper Spareribs - now this time, it's really hard for me to bite. But if hubby says it's thumbs up then I would agree. He is a picky eater compared to me and he doesn't like Chinese food that much.

  • Ho To Tay - I tasted a different Ho To Tay before somewhere in MOA so I was expecting the same taste. It was too bland for me though the serving was good enough for 3 and filled with vegetables as well.
Since they are still on their "soft-opening", they don't allow credit card payments yet. Their service is another story and so far it needs more improvement. It took me a while to get a glass of water even though there were not much customers during our second visit. The staff said sorry for leaving me with such impression and said in all honesty that most of them are new waiters and waitresses. And by "new" I mean this is their first job in a food chain.

My sincerest apologies dearies for the lack of photos. We started to dig in when our orders were served and hubby is the type of guy who prefers to enjoy the food sans the picture-taking.

So for those who are in the south, maybe you can drop by at Hap Chan SM Bacoor to get a taste of their delicious Chinese cuisine. Forget about what Kris Aquino is trying to advertise, Hap Chan is the closest thing to Chinese food next to the restaurants in Binondo!
