Roaring Around the Lion City

3:54 PM 38 Comments A+ a-

It was only last year when hubby and I spent our alone time in Singapore. But since my kids already forgot how Universal Studios looks like and my eldest is already old enough to go with me at their rides/attractions, we decided to have another trip to the Lion City. However, this time, it's with their grandparents and me.

I got a great deal from Jetstar Asia for 4k each person, roundtrip! A week prior to our flight, I already created our itinerary for the whole 4-day trip. Knowing that Singapore has a lot of walking to do, I used Streetdirectory.com to know the specific exits, stations, and even estimated tickets/taxi rates. Then I saved it on my iPad and even printed a copy just in case the battery runs out. Why that OC? I got two kids who get tired easily and two grownups who do not want to go for long walks.

Jetstar Asia's terminal is at NAIA 1. I was surprised to see how much it improved though it's still not at par with our fellow Asian neighbors when it comes to their super duper awesome airports. But at least NAIA 1 no longer have leaking ceilings, broken floors, and unpleasant smell compared to what it looked like decades ago. They even have a small kids room so you can leave them there while eating or waiting for boarding.

Small room for kids who wanted to play while waiting

Yep, that's Starbucks over there

So from Changi Airport, we checked in at Carlton Hotel, just 5 minutes away from Bras Basah station by foot. This is by far the most convenient hotel I checked into in Singapore. Right in front of it is Raffles Mall where we ate a couple of times at their Food Court. The location is perfect!

Day 1

We didn't had much time during our first day since we arrived at around 4 PM at the hotel. I told them that we better rest for a while then head to Chinatown for dinner. Rather than taking the train, we opt for a taxi instead since the cost is almost the same as 5 tickets. After that nakakafood-coma dinner, my mermaids took advantage of the hotel pool. Then we took a rest and called it a day.

Day 2

From our hotel to Sentosa Island, where Universal Studios is located, I decided to take the train instead. The travel time is faster and we don't have to spend extra cash for the other fees associated with traveling via taxi. The second day was the highlight of our SG trip. After Vivo City, we headed to the Malaysian Food Street to have lunch. We bought the fast pass tickets rather than waste our time queuing for the attractions.

Universal Studios Singapore
My kids liked everything but my eldest loved it the most. I'm so glad that Battlestar Galactica is already open. Being the thrill-seeker that I am, I immediately asked my eldest to come with me. Though scared,  she did tried and enjoyed it. There were a couple more attractions that we went together but BG and Transformers were the best ones for her. She was very excited when Bumblebee was at the side and asked me to take a photo of her with her favorite character. By 6 PM, we headed back to Raffles Mall via taxi and headed to the hotel after.

We survived Battlestar Galactica!

Day 3

This was our time for the city tour. Since it would be very hot to walk during the morning, we decided to chill at the hotel for a while and eat somewhere at the Orchard Road for lunch. We then took a taxi to the Merlion for some photo op but it got too hot that my kids are starting to feel flushed. So off we go back to the hotel which is just a mere 10-minute ride away.

My kids getting sick whenever we go to KL or Singapore is getting pretty normal every time we go to these countries probably because of the intense heat. We let them rest until 4 PM rather than risk them getting sick. While they're resting. I took the time to head to Chinatown via MRT so I can buy my hubby's favorite Bak Kwa or jerky. I was so happy and bought quite a lot since the store had a surprising 50% off from their original price.

For the rest of the night, we spent our time walking around the Gardens by the Bay. We waited until 8 PM so we can witness their Christmas special where they had their light show at the Supertree Grove. It was truly amazing and overwhelming to see such Christmas spirit in Singapore. I hope we can have the same beautiful attractions here in Philippines that would really entice even the foreigners to see and take pictures as well.

Day 4

Their feet and legs were still tired from all the walking that we did during our third day. Before we headed back to the airport for our 4 PM flight, we just took some time to enjoy the hotel and its facilities. Of course, my kids wouldn't let the day pass without using Carlton Hotel's pool. They enjoyed it so much that they don't even want to get out of the hotel. Of course, the vacay has to end. We need to go back to Manila in a few hours and head to the airport before 2 PM

At the airport, I was surprised that Jetstar has a self-check in area where you would just scan your tickets and passports to get in. It was a breeze putting the my baggage for check-in and we were able to go inside the immigration without any hassle.

Carlton Hotel

I highly recommend staying at the Carlton Hotel if:

  • You have enough budget to stay for more or less Php4000 a night.
  • You want to stay in a 4-star hotel. This is different from Ritz-Carlton but their service is also 5-star quality. I kept on asking for extra hygiene sets (shampoos and all that "souvenirs") so I can bring home some to include on my collection. I also called them a lot of times for extra pillows, blankets, towels, etc. By the way, they're not strict with the number of pax that would go inside the room. They can even give extra beds if there are available for free!
  • You feel like staying in a spacious room.
  • You want to access free and fast wifi for all your devices (we had 5 that time)
  • You want to be near a shopping mall and MRT Station. Raffles Mall is just a stone's throw away from the doors of Carlton Hotel. There are 3 stations nearby but walking to Bras Basah MRT station was the most convenient of all.
  • You want to see the Singapore Flyer from your room.
  • You like to walk from hotel to Orchard Road and see the Christmas decors along the street.
  • You prefer to stay in the heart of the city near Bugis, Chinatown, and even the MBS area.
  • You want to experience the best hotel service for an affordable price.

Our vacation was truly amazing. We were able to check out different places and chill at the same time. My kids had fun and so does my parents. So next time we're going to Singapore, I would still prefer staying at this hotel or somewhere in Bugis area like BIG Hotel where I stayed last year with my husband.

If you've been to SG before, let me know your stories. I would love to hear your tips on how to go around and other places to see next time we book a flight to this ever-changing Lion City.

xoxo,

Our last Sg visit was just a side trip to Johor Bahru to visit Legoland. My boys enjoy LLM more than USS. We love Sg too so many places to do and see for the kiddos like museums and parks.

I've been to SG twice only so I still have a long list of places to visit if ever we go back. Like Juvyann, we also went to Legoland Malaysia during our last visit in SG. I will take note of that hotel because 4K is not bad and there is pool pa. :)
